José Quintanar

José Quintanar (Madrid, Spain, 1984) lives and works in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. As an artist with a background in comics and architecture, he utilizes the book as the primary medium for his work. José Quintanar explores the possibilities of drawing as a game, and the ways in which it serves as a primary method for establishing processes based on rudimentary rules.

In 2013, he initiated the publishing project RUJA PRESS, exploring and experimenting with the book's form. In 2022 RUJA PRESS was renamed into "This was a project but we have forgotten what it was".

José is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, with a thesis titled "The book as public space”
