Ruud van der Helm

Ruud van der Helm is a Dutch historian, editor and translator who also performs various administrative duties for a number of organizations. Early on during his studies his interest in typography and the practical aspects of the printing trade and the graphic industry was enkindled, among other things through his work for the Rijks Geschiedkundige Publicatiën.

Since 1991 he has independently edited and translated articles and books from English, German and French for various publishers and other clients. Between 2008 and 2024 he has been involved at Brill Publishers, Leiden, in the preparation of several Major Reference Works, including the ECLL (Chinese Language and Linguistics), BERIPSA (Religions of the Indigenuous People of South Asia) and BEEC (Early Christianity), which was presented to Pope Francis in September 2024 at the Vatican.

At Woonwerkpand Tetterode, the former Lettergieterij Amsterdam, Ruud has contributed to events such as Type & Character (on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Hollandsche Mediaeval in 2012); manages the Lettergietkundige Allerlei Collectie; and gives guided tours.
