The invention of movable lead type in the 15th century revolutionized the spread of knowledge and culture. For centuries, books, newspapers, and artistic prints were brought to life through typecasting, until new technologies replaced the craft in the 20th century. To safeguard this unique heritage, a group of craftsmen and enthusiasts founded the Stichting Lettergieten 1983 in Westzaan, after the closure of Monotype’s foundry machines in 1983.
