fanfare is pleased to introduce the third edition of Broken Channels on 18th & 19th October 2025. This annual two-day research programme creates space for us to collectively question our dependence on efficient transmissions, learn and relearn old and new forms of navigation and communication.

In our 2025 edition, we focus on the theme of waste. We will experiment with uses and reuses of lead type together with Stichting Lettergieten and loop along the A-10 urban highway in a live sonic activation about circularity, mobility and movement.

Return to the source: Join us for a journey to the origins of the printing industry, visiting the typefoundry Stichting Lettergieten and the paper mill De Schoolmeester in Westzaan. Together with Lettergieten, fanfare has experimented with melting discarded printing lead type. Together, we liquified, blended and evaporated letterpress metal alloy, to re-appropriate the means of production while questioning traditional forms of assembly. Continuing this dialogue, Trang Hà will “mould” lead and pulp into a food experience—an invitation to participate, enjoy, and reflect on the processes of forging and molding.

    “No hay banda
    There is no band!
No hay banda! and yet we hear a band.
If we want to hear a clarinette... listen…
    Un trombon "à coulisse".
    Un trombon "con sordina".
Sient le son du trombon in sourdine.
Hear le son... and mute it... drop it…”

A group of cars will loop Amsterdam’s A10 ring road in a live sonic activation that explores circularity, mobility, and the materiality of infrastructure. The A10 — the Netherlands’ only purpose-built ring highway — has long been a testing ground for silent asphalt, a multilayer porous pavement that absorbs car noise and reshapes the acoustic experience of the city.
